Project Description

We have teamed up with our neighbours at Cornwall Reclaim to start making these stunning and thick Oak tables/furniture. They supply us with the amazing Oak slabs, and we process and cut them to what is needed.

We’re really quite excited about what we can offer with these massive slabs of Oak! When raw, they’re coming in at as big as a whopping 130mm thick. They will have obviously twisted, warped and cupped a bit during the drying process so we then flatten both sides of these slabs to around 100mm thick. We can then cut these to whatever shape or design the customer likes whilst keeping that 100mm thickness. For comparison, your normal kitchen worktop comes in at only 38mm thick! These really need to be seen in person to appreciate just how they look and feel. I myself, have fitted kitchens for the last 16 years and have never seen pieces of this thickness used in the kitchens I’ve fitted. From my personal experience I’m excited that we can offer this kind of size, as I know these would look so stunning as worktops, tables, shelves and anything in between. From my point of view also, this is something pretty bespoke to us that we can offer. You will be able to find other people perhaps supplying slabs, worktops and tables that are maybe up to 60mm thick if you’re lucky. Slabs above 60mm become incredibly difficult for people to work with your average carpenters tools. Although there are a few difficulties involved for us, we have the CNC, so we can machine from both sides of the slabs with incredible accuracy, allowing us to create the radiuses and curves shown in these pictures.

The two slabs shown in the pictures are going to be used for desks at Cornwall Reclaim, and allow customers to come and view them, let their own imaginations come up with what they’d like, and then work with us to create their own unique pieces for their home, office, bar or wherever else they’d like to utilise these bespoke and beautiful slabs. As a side note, there are slabs of this thickness at a crazily long 7m+ at the moment so come down and have a look!
